Rajnath Singh launches Navy’s first indigenous fleet support ship ‘Surya’ at Visakhapatnam
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Indian Navy’s first home‑built fleet support vessel, named Surya, in Visakhapatnam. The 43,500‑ton ship, constructed at Hindustan Shipyard with roughly 82% domestic content, can refuel and supply multiple warships simultaneously while at sea. The ceremony also marked the keel‑laying of the series’ fifth ship, highlighting the Navy’s push for greater self‑reliance in logistics.
