Most of rural agricultural workers landed in non-productive, informal urban jobs in 25 years: study
A recent study using RBI’s KLEMS data reveals that over the past 25 years, the majority of rural agricultural laborers have transitioned to informal urban employment. The shift largely involves non‑productive sectors such as restaurants, construction and transport. The findings highlight a long‑term trend of rural workers moving away from farming toward city‑based informal jobs.
