Sainsbury’s and Morrisons ‘held talks this year’ on multibillion-pound merger
Sainsbury’s and Morrisons disclosed that they engaged in merger discussions earlier this year. The proposed combination, valued at several billion pounds, would have formed a retailer holding roughly 23.6% of the UK grocery market, narrowing the gap with Tesco, which commands about 27.8% share. The talks have since ended without a deal and are currently not pursuing further negotiations.
