Tamil Nadu byelections: why are only two constituencies going to polls instead of seven?
Seven Tamil Nadu assembly seats are currently vacant, but the Election Commission has scheduled voting only for Madurantakam and Dharapuram on Oct 6, 2026. The other five constituencies will hold elections later, as their polls are delayed by pending legal challenges and administrative procedures, and ensures compliance with court orders. This staggered schedule limits the upcoming byelection to two constituencies.
