5x faster Edge Functions: V8 isolates to Firecracker MicroVMs
A new approach to edge computing boosts function performance by about five times. Instead of running JavaScript code in V8 isolates, the system now uses Firecracker MicroVMs—tiny, lightweight virtual machines. The switch cuts overhead, speeds up cold starts, and lowers latency for serverless workloads at the network edge. The change is expected to improve overall responsiveness for edge‑based services.
